“A horse can lend its rider the speed and strength he or she lacks, but the rider who is wise remembers it is no more than a loan.”

EquiScire is an organisation established in the province of Cádiz, Spain. We have over 20 years of experience in equine welfare, nutrition and rehabilitation, and have coordinated or contributed to countless rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming cases across southern Spain.
Our work is based on scientific knowledge and evidence-based approaches to equine welfare and nutrition, ensuring that the animals in our care receive appropriate, informed and individualised support.
Andalucía has a deeply rooted equestrian tradition, but this also means there are many cases of misinformed owners, outdated practices, abuse and neglect.
Our vision is to create a safe haven for equines that may have nowhere else to go, providing rescue, rehabilitation and sanctuary where needed. Where possible, we will also work to responsibly rehome horses into suitable homes. Alongside our rescue work, we aim to contribute reliable knowledge and promote better welfare standards through education and advocacy.
We are currently establishing ourselves as a non profit organisation and seeking support to create a sanctuary, which ideally will eventually also include space for other creatures, including native wildlife. Our experience in wildlife rescue, together with the limitations of the service often provided by regional government-funded wildlife rescue centres, means that supporting the rescue and rehabilitation of native wildlife will also be an important role for EquiScire.
If you would like to be part of our story, support our work, or eventually visit the sanctuary and participate actively through volunteering, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
